It seems like a good idea, then you take a look. Ugh, that’s awful! Every spot, every wrinkle.

Yuck.
Selfies are not my friend. Aging is tough on women and the selfie seems to expose exactly what makes it hard-seeing your “young“ self in an older shell. When did that happen?
Men go grey and look distinguished. They grow facial hair to compensate for the loss up top. Women spend hours battling in the magnifying mirror with a small fortune of beauty products promised to stop the inevitable.
How do we age with grace?
How do we accept each new wrinkle?
How do we love ourselves unconditionally?

Ugh! I agree! Good advice. I took a selfie with some friends this weekend and I posted it because it was the only one we got... but I HATE it!
I feel your pain! I try to remember that aging is a high class problem but sometimes I see a pic of myself from several years ago and feel unhappy at changes that have occurred. I like how you spaced out the last three lines to make an impact.
As a guy, I don't really get to comment thoughts on the sentiments here. Nor should I. I have learned and even when trying to empathize I just sound like an ignorant dude telling girls about the inherent nature of inner beauty and blah blah. I will say that, over time, I've come to recognize this as a pertinent issue many women struggle with and that I'm really sorry. It's another on the list of things that are not fair that society has heaped on women over the years. Thank you for having the courage to share!
