The Great Pasta Debate

Tonight I made rigatoni bolognese for dinner, a family favorite.
Soon after we started eating, my son’s girlfriend, who was joining us for dinner, asked, “What’s your favorite type of pasta?”
Little did she know that her question would spark The Great Pasta Debate. We all had different favorites for various reasons and proceeded to defend our choices.
”Linguini is the most versatile pasta, it goes with pretty much everything.“
”I prefer spaghetti and it also goes well with everything.”
”There is definitely certain pasta that has to be matched with a specific dish. Like elbows are best for macaroni salad and bowties work well with an Alfredo sauce.“
“What about ravioli?”
”Ravioli isn’t really a pasta! It’s filled with meat or cheese.”
”So what, it‘s still made with pasta dough and covered in a sauce!”
”How about angel hair?”
”Ooh…I love angel hair!”
”Not me. It gets all stuck together.”
Everyone did agree that ziti without the lines in it is the pasta we could all live without.
At the end of dinner, regardless of which pasta was their favorite, everyone had completely devoured the rigatoni bolognese made by the one non-Italian at the table! 🍝
This is adorable. I love how you captured the dialogue and your last line made me laugh out loud! Sounds like a delicious and fun dinner!
